Quiet life in São Luis
São Luis was my first experience of Couch Surfing in south America.
For the ones who don't know yet, Couch surfing is a community of open minded people who open their house to travellers fo free in exchange of a cultural experience.
I arrived then at Ligia's house in the suburb of the city. I rang at the bell seeing only a 3m wall and wondering what I would find behind. When Ligia opened the door I discovered a gracious middle aged woman and a hugh house sorrounded by a big garden and a swimming pool. She welcomed me and hosted me in my own room with attached bathroom! Better than in a hotel!
I spent one week with her, her daughter and nieces, resting, sharing experiences, drinking caipirihna (typical bresilian drink), visiting the city and the nearby fishermen village and enjoying the beach.
Life is great!
